The EAOP (an academic preparation program) needs you! It gives me great pleasure to introduce and invite UCLA students, student groups, and UCLA Alumni to participate in the "Bruin Buddy Volunteer Program." This program is designed specifically for the UCLA community who desires to do college outreach to middle school and high school students from educationally disadvantaged backgrounds.
In light of the Regent's decision and Proposition 209 to end Affirmative Action at the University of California, now more than ever, we need to make sure that students from educationally disadvantaged backgrounds are fully prepared, eligible and academically competitive to attend the UC system. As a Bruin Buddy Volunteer, you can assist the EAOP staff as they inform, motivate and help prepare EAOP scholars become academically competitive for admission to UCLA. You may choose to volunteer in four different areas:
- Tutoring (Attendance at training workshop required)
- Mentoring/ Academic Advising (Attendance at training workshop required)
- Scholar Saturday Academy (UCLA campus event)
There is no long or short-term commitment required to be a part of this volunteer program. Services will be scheduled based on the availability of the volunteer and EAOP staff. If you are interested or know of someone from UCLA who would be interested in being a Bruin Buddy Volunteer for EAOP, please have them complete and return the Volunteer Data Form to the EAOP Office, Student Activities Center Suite B-10.
If you have any questions, please call the EAOP office at (310) 825-4496 or at mwilcox@saonet.ucla.edu. I hope you can join the UCLA EAOP as a Bruin Buddy Volunteer.
